Spooner, Alden Jeremiah

author, was born Feb. 2, 1810, in Sag Harbor, N. Y. He was the originator in 1863 of the Long Island Historical society, and gave more than one thousand books and pamphlets as a nucleus for its library.

He edited, with notes and memoirs of the authors, Gabriel Furman's Notes, Geographical and Historical, Relating to the Town of Brooklyn; and Silas Wood's Sketch of the First Settlement of the Several Towns on Long Island. He died Aug. 2, 1881, in Hempstead, L. I., N. Y.
