Shober, Francis E
lawyer, state senator, congressman, was born March 12, 1831, in Salem, N. C. In 1853 he located in Salisbury, N. C. In 1862 he was elected to the state assembly as a conservative, and continued in that position until the close of the war. He subsequently served one session in the state senate, and was elected a representative from North Carolina to the forty-first and forty-second congresses. He was acting secretary of the United States senate from 1881 to 1883.
