Savage, John
lawyer, jurist, state legislator, congressman, was born in 1779 in New York. He was a member of the New York assembly in 1814; and from 1815 to 1819 was a representative in congress from that state. He subsequently held the positions of district attorney, comptroller of the state, chief justice of the supreme court of New York, and treasurer of the United States for New York. He was a presidential elector in 1845. He died Oct. 19, 1863, in Utica, N. Y.
