Smith, Lucas F
soldier, lawyer, jurist, was born Nov. 3, 1844, in Wells county, Ind. He graduated from the university of Michigan, and soon attained success as one of the foremost lawyers of the west. During the civil war he served as a private in the union army; and was captain of a company of rangers in the Indian war of 1875. He has served as county attorney of Fannin county, Texas; was district attorney of the eleventh judicial district of Texas, and served with distinction as United States district attorney of New Mexico. He is now superior judge of Santa Cruz county, Cal.
