Rivers, William James

educator, college president, author, was born July 18, 1822, in Charleston, S. C.

He graduated from the South Carolina college of Columbia in 1841. For seventeen years he was professor of Greek literature in the State college of South Carolina; and for fourteen years was president of a college in Maryland. He is the author of The Early History of South Carolina; Topics in the History of South Carolina; a volume of College Addresses and Other Occasional Pieces; The Poems Eldred; and numerous poems.
