Ritch, William Gillet
legislator, governor, was born May 4, 1830, in Wawarsing, N. Y. He was elected to the state senate of the Wisconsin legislature, and was chosen a member of the electoral college. In 1869 he established the Winnebago County Press at Neenah. In 1873 President Grant appointed him secretary of the territory of New Mexico, which he filled for twelve years, three years of which he served as governor. He is the author of two volumes of Spanish-American history, entitled The Blue Book of New Mexico Aztlan.
