Rice, Edmund
soldier, lawyer, state senator, congressman, was born Feb. 14, 1819, in Waitsfield, Vt. He moved to St.
Paul in 1849, and practiced law till 1856.
He was president of the Minnesota and Pacific Railroad company from 1857 till 1863; St. Paul and Pacific railroad 1863 till 1872, and trustee till 1879; and president St. Paul and Chicago 1863 till 1877. He was a member of the territorial legislature 1851; and was state senator 1864- 66, 1874-76. He was a member of the state house of representatives 1867, 1872, 1877, and 1878; was mayor of St. Paul 1881-83; and re-elected in 1885. He was elected to the fiftieth congress as a democrat..
