Read, Benjamin M
lawyer, legislator, was born September, 1854, in Las Cruces, N. M. He has been private secretary to Governors L. A. Sheldon and E. G. Ross. He has been a translator of the New Mexico laws; professor of English and Spanish; and in 1885 was admitted to the supreme court of New Mexico. In 1890-91 he was a member of the New Mexico legislature; has been vice-president for New Mexico of the National Republican league, and was a delegate to the conventions of the National Republican league in 1894 and in 1896. He has been pension agent; and since 1876 has been a delegate to nearly all the republican territorial conventions in New Mexico.
