Pennypacker, Elijah Funk
reformer, financier, state legislator, was born Nov. 20, 1804, in Chester county, Pa.
He became interested in real estate; was in the Pennsylvania legislature in 1831- 35; chairman of its committee on banks, and a principal mover in the establishment of public schools. He was an organizer of the Pennsylvania Mutual Fire Insurance company in 1869, and became president, holding office till January, 1887, when he resigned. He died Jan. 4, 1888, in Phoenixville, Pa.

PENNYPACKER, SAMUEL WHITA- KER, lawyer, jurist, author, was born April 9, 1843, in Phoenixville, Pa. He is a jurist of Philadelphia; and the author of Annals of Phenixville; Pennsylvania Supreme Court Reports; and Historical and Biographical Sketches.
