Payne, William Harold
educator, college president, author, was born May 12, 1836, in Farmington, N. Y. For twenty-five years he was superintendent of schools in Michigan; professor of science and art of teaching in the university of Michigan for eight years; and since 1887 has been chancellor of the university of Nashville, and president of the Peabody Normal college of Nashville, Tenn. He is the author of School Supervision; Outlines of Educational Doctrine; Contributions to the Science of Education; and Lectures on Pedagogy.
