Paxson, Edward M
journalist, lawyer, jurist, was born Sept. 3, 1824, in Buckingham, Pa. He learned the printing business, and in 1842 founded the Newtown Journal; and in 1847 moved to Philadelphia, where he established the Daily News. He subsequently turned his attention to the study of law, and was admitted to the bar in 1850. In 1869 he was appointed judge of the court of common pleas in the city of Philadelphia; and the following year was elected to the office. In 1874 he was elected justice of the supreme court of Pennsylvania, and subsequently chief justice. He edited Brown's Collection of Laws, and is the author of Memoirs of the Johnson Family.
