Pasco, Samuel
soldier, lawyer, legislator, United States senator, was born June 28, 1834, in London, England. When quite young he moved with his father first to Prince Edward Island, thence to Massachusetts; was prepared for college at the high school in Charlestown; and graduated at Harvard in 1858. In 1859 he went to Florida to take charge of the Waukeenah academy of Jefferson county, where he has ever since resided. In 1861 he entered the confederate army as a private.
He was admitted to the bar in 1868; in 1872 became a member of the democratic state committee; and from 1876 to 1888 was its chairman. He has represented Florida on the democratic national committee since 1880; and in 1880 was elected a presidential elector at large; in 1885 was president of the constitutional convention of his state; and in 1887, while speaker of the state house of representatives, was elected to the United States senate as a democrat, to succeed Charles W. Jones; and was re-elected to the same office. His term of service will expire March 3, 1899.
