Paddock, Algernon Sidney

lawyer, governor, United States senator, was born Nov. 9, 1830, in Glens Falls, N. Y.

He settled in Nebraska in 1857; was a delegate to the national republican convention in 1860; and was appointed secretary of Nebraska territory in 1861, which office he held until the admission of the state in 1867.

He was a delegate to the Baltimore convention of 1864; was a candidate for congress in 1868; and was appointed governor of Wyoming territory in 1868, and declined the office. He was elected a senator in congress from Nebraska for the term commencing in 1875 and ending in 1881; and was re-elected for term ending in 1893. In 1882-86 he was a member of the Utah commission.

He died Oct. 17, 1897, in Beatrice, Neb.
