Osgood, Samuel
soldier, merchant, state senator, congressman, author, was born Feb. 14, 1748, in Andover, Mass. He was a member of the provincial congress.
He was a member of the house until 1780, and then state senator. He was delegate to the continental congress from 1780 to 1784; first commissioner of the United States treasury from 1785 to 1789; and United States postmaster-general from 1789 to 1791. He was the author of Chronology; Remarks on Daniel and Revelation; Letters on Episcopacy; Theology and Metaphysics, and other subjects. He died Aug. 12, 1813, in New York city.
