Norton, Charles Eliot

Dante scholar and a high authority on the history of art, and since 1875 professor of the history of art in Harvard university. He has edited the Letters of J. R. Lowell; the Writings of G. W. Curtis; the Goethe and Carlyle Correspondence; the Letters of Carlyle; and has translated Dante's Vita Nuova and Divina Commedia. His other works include, Historical Studies of Church-Building in the Middle Ages; Notes of Travel and Study in Italy; and Considerations of Some Recent Social Theories.
