Morris, Robert
signer of the declaration of independence, was born Jan. 20, 1734, in England. He was a member of the congress of 1776, from Pennsylvania, and signed the declaration of independence, and also the articles of confederation. In 1781 he obtained the control of the American finances, and rendered important services to his adopted country.
He was a member of the convention which framed the present constitution, and signed that instrument. He was chosen a United States senator, serving from 1789 to 1795. He died May 8, 1806, in Philadelphia, Pa.
