Morgan, John Tyler
soldier, lawyer, United States senator, was born June 20, 1824, in Athens, Tenn. He was a presidential elector in 1860 from Alabama.
In 1861 he was a delegate to the state convention called to consider the question of secession. He entered the confederate army in that year, and served throughout the war, rising to the rank of brigadiergeneral. He was again a presidential elector in 1876; and was elected to the United States senate for six years from 1877; and re-elected in 1882, 1888 and 1894.
