Sage, Henry W
financier, state legislator, was born Jan. 31, 1813, in Middletown, Conn. About 1854, he built a saw mill at Lake Simcoe, in Canada, and later became a lumber operator in West Bay City, Mich., and one of the largest owners of pine lands in that state. He has given more than $1,250,000 to Cornell university; and Sage college for women, a chapel, a library and other buildings there are monuments to his liberality. In 1847 he was, as a republican, elected to the New York legislature, and in 1892 was a candidate for elector.
