Moore, Horace L
soldier, merchant, congressman, was born Feb. 25, 1837, in Mantua, Ohio. He enlisted as a private soldier in the second Kansas infantry May 14, 1861, and served continuously until June 30, 1865, when he was mustered out of the service as lieutenant-colonel of the fourth Arkansas cavalry; and commanded the eighteenth and nineteenth regiments of Kansas cavalry in the United States service, serving against the Indians on the plains in 1867-68. He has been engaged in mercantile pursuits since the close of his service in the army, except for two years, when he was treasurer of Douglas county, Kansas. He was elected to the fifty-third congress. He is now engaged in compiling a genealogy of the Moore family.
