Montgomery, Richard
soldier, was born Dec. 2, 1736, in Ireland. He entered the British army, and was shortly afterward ordered to America. He returned to Europe, but came back to America in 1773, and purchased King's Bridge, N. Y.
In 1775 he was elected to represent Dutchess county in the first New York provincial convention. The same year he was appointa ed a brigadier-general; and was killed at the battle of Quebec, Dec. 31, 1775. A marble monument was erected to his memory in New York city.
