Metcalfe, Thomas
soldier, state legislator, congressman, governor, United States senator, was born March 20, 1780, in Fauquier county, Va. He was a member of the Kentucky legislature for several years. He was a representative in congress from 1819 to 1829, when he was elected governor of Kentucky, which office he held until 1833. In 1834 he was elected to the state senate, and in 1840 was chosen president of the board of internal improvement. In 1848 he was appointed and elected to fill the unexpired term of Mr. Crittenden in the senate of the United States. He died Aug. 18, 1855, in Nicholas county, Ky.
