Maynard, Horace

educator, lawyer, congressman, was born Aug. 13, 1814, in Westborough, Mass. He held a number of local offices in his adopted state; was a presidential elector in 1852. He was elected a representative from Tennessee to the thirty-fifth congress; and was reelected to the thirty-sixth, thirty-seventh, thirty-ninth, fortieth, forty-second and forty-third congresses. In 1875 he was appointed minister resident to Turkey. ın 1880 he was appointed postmaster-general, and served in that position until 1881. He died May 3, 1882, in Knoxville, Tenn.
