Maxwell, Samuel
lawyer, jurist, legislator, congressman, was born May 20, 1826, in Syracuse, N. Y. He was elected a representative from Cass county to the Nebraska territorial legislature; was elected to the legislature in 1864, and reelected in 1865. He assisted in framing the constitution of 1866; and was elected to the first state legislature in 1866. He organized the First National bank of Plattsmouth about 1870. He was elected judge of the supreme court as a republican in 1872 for a term of six years. He located in Fremont in 1873; and was elected in 1875 a member of the third constitutional convention. He was elected the same year judge of the supreme court under the new constitution, and was reelected in 1881 and 1887. He is the author of a Digest of Nebraska Reports; Practice in Justice Courts; Pleading and Practice; Criminal Procedure, and Code Pleadings. He was elected to the fiftyfifth congress as a fusionist.
