MATHEWS, WILLIAM SMITH BAB- COCK, musician, author, was born in 1837 in New Hampshire. He is a musical critic of Chicago, and the author of Outline of Musical Form; Dictionary of Music and Musicians; How to Understand Music; and New Musical Miscellanies.
