Madison, Robert Lee

educator, author, was born Feb. 17, 1867, in Staunton, Va. He received his education in three different training schools in Lexington, Va., and at the United States university at Athens, Tenn. He is a great-grandson of General Ambrose Madison, who was a brother of President James Madison, and a cousin of Bishop James Madison, the first episcopal bishop of Virginia. He has been principal of the Quallatown seminary, N. C.; principal of the Jackson academy, Sylva, N. C.; and is now principal of the Cullowhee high school. In 1896-97 he was fourth vicepresident of the North Carolina Teachers' assembly; and since 1897 has been a member of the board of education for Jackson county, N. C.

MAEDER, FREDERICK GEORGE, actor, author, was born Sept. 11, 1840, in New York city. He has attained success as an actor; and is the author of Cannuck; Shamus O'Brien; Runaway Wife; and Naun Cree. He died April 8, 1891, in New York city.
