Macarthur, John
architect, was born May 13, 1823, in Scotland. Among the buildings designed and built by him are the naval hospitals at Philadelphia, Annapolis, and Mare Island, Cal.; the state hospitals for the insane at Danville and Warren, Pa.; Lafayette college of Easton, Pa.; and the Continental, Girard, and Lafayette hotels of Philadelphia.
MACARTHUR, ROBERT STUART, clergyman, author, was born July 31, 1841, in Canada. He is a distinguished baptist clergyman of New York city, pastor of Calvary baptist church from 1870, and the author of Quick Truths in Quaint Texts; Calvary Pulpit, or Christ and Him Crucified; and Divine Balustrades, and Other Sermons.
