Loomis, D. Alden
physician, surgeon, was born June 14, 1837, in Westfield, N. Y. He was educated in the classics and higher mathematics at the Fredonia academy, N. Y. For many years he was engaged in educational work, entered the Philadelphia college of Medicine and Surgery in 1862, and graduated two years later. He was commissioned assistant surgeon in the ninety-third regiment, New York volunteer infantry, and was on the staff of General Butler. After the war he was appointed demonstrator of anatomy in his alma mater. A few years later he was appointed to the chair in the Medical college of St. Louis. In 1896 was elected to the chair of histology in the college of Physicians and Surgeons, in Indianapolis, Ind. He is the author of Among the Hollyhocks, and has contributed extensively to medical and periodical literature.
