Lewis, James Hamilton

lawyer, congressman, was born May 18, 1863, in Danville, Va. In 1885 he was elected to the Washington territorial senate as a democrat for the eleventh district; and was nominated for governor in 1892, and declined the nomination because opposed to the platform. He was one of the two nominees of the democrats in the legislature of 1894 for United States senator; and in the national democratic convention in Chicago, 1896, his name was presented by the state of Washington for vice-president of the United States. He was elected to the fifty-fifth congress as a democrat.
