Lapham, Henry Griffith

leather merchant, was born Feb. 24, 1822, in Canby, Vt. He was principally engaged in the tanning and lumber business in New York and Pennsylvania, and engaged in the manufacture of leather and lumber in northwestern Pennsylvania. Later he took an active part in the production of petroleum in Pennsylvania and Ohio. He was also interested in ranching in Mexico. The United States Leather Co. is one of the greatest corporations in America. He died Jan. 28, 1881, in New York city.
