Lane, Henry S

soldier, legislator, congressman, governor, United States senator, was born Feb. 24, 1811, in Montgomery county, Ky. In 1837 he was elected to the Indiana legislature; and was a representative in congress from Indiana from 1841 to 1843. He served as a lieutenantcolonel of volunteers in the war with Mexico in 1846. In 1861 he was elected governor of Indiana; and two days after his inauguration was again elected a senator in congress from Indiana for the term ending in 1867. He died June 18, 1881, in Crawfordsville, Ind.
