Kyle, James Henderson
educator, civil engineer, clergyman, United States senator, was born Feb. 24, 1854, Xenia, Ohio. He was engaged for several years in educational and ministerial work in Utah and South Dakota. At the time he entered political life he was financial secretary of Yankton college, Yankton, S. D. Was elected to the state senate as an independent in 1890; was elected to the United States senate to succeed Gideon C. Moody; took his seat March 4, 1891; and was re-elected in 1897 as an independent. His term of service will expire March 3, 1903.
