Knight, Daniel Ridgeway

artist, was born in Philadelphia, Pa. He studied in the Academy of Fine Arts of his native city, and subsequently in Paris. Since 1874 he has resided in Poissy, France, engaged in painting pictures of peasant life, all his work being done in the open air. He has been a regular exhibitor at the Paris salon; has received a gold medal from that institution; a medal from the universal exhibition of Paris; the decoration of the cross of the Legion of Honor; gold medal at Munich; gold medal of honor from Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts; and gold medal from Antwerp exhibition. His principal pictures owned by the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts are Calling the Ferryman; Un Devil; Printemps; and one of his famous paintings is The Shepherd and His Friends, owned by the Lighton gallery of Milwaukee, Wis.
