Kerr, Walter Lowrie

farmer, legislator, was born Feb. 17, 1848, in Poland, Ohio. He received the rudiments of his education in the public schools, and graduated from the Iowa university. He is a successful farmer of Norton, Kan.; has served with distinction as a member of the Kansas house of representatives; and filled various other public offices in the gift of his county and state.

KERR, WASHINGTON CARUTHERS, geologist, was born May 24, 1827, in Alamance county, N. C. He became one of the foremost geologists of the south; and has contributed a number of valuable papers to scientific publications. He died Aug. 9, 1885, in Asheville, N. C.
