Jackson, Howell Edmunds

associate justice of the supreme court of the United States, was born April 8, 1832, in Paris, Tenn. He removed to Memphis, Tenn., in 1859; was twice appointed a judge of the state supreme court. He returned to Jackson in 1876; and was elected a representative in the state legislature in 1880. He was elected a senator of the United States from Tennessee for the term of six years from 1881; and in 1886 was appointed United States district judge for the western district of Tennessee; and in 1893 became an associate justice.
