Ireland, John (Bishop author was born Sept)

bishop, author, was born Sept. 11, 1838, in Ireland. He served as chaplain of the fifth Minnesota regiment during the civil war. He was afterward appointed rector of the cathedral of St. Paul, which position he held until his consecration as coadjutor bishop. He has founded a colony of Roman catholics in Minnesota; and for many years has been president of the State Historical society of Minnesota. He is an able orator and writer upon educational themes; and the author of Church and Modern Society.
