Irion, Alfred Briggs
lawyer, jurist, state legislator, congressman, was born Feb. 18, 1833, in Avoyelles parish, La. In 1864 he was elected a representative in the state legislature. In 1879 six new judicial circuits were established, by an act of the legislature, the tribunals for which were styled Circuit Courts of Appeal; and in 1880 he was elected one of the judges for the third district, for the term of four years. In 1884 he was elected a representative from Louisiana to the forty-ninth congress as a democrat.
