Hooper, Samuel
merchant, state senator, congressman, was born Feb. 3, 1808, in Marblehead, Mass. In 1851 he was elected to the state house of representatives, served three years, and declined a re-election. In 1857 he was elected to the state senate, and declined to serve a second term. In 1861 he was elected a representative from Massachusetts to fill a vacancy in the thirty-seventh congress, and in 1862 was re-elected to the thirtyeighth congress. He was re-elected to the thirty-ninth, fortieth, forty-first, fortysecond and forty-third congresses. He died Feb. 13, 1875, in Washington.
