Holsey, Hopkins
journalist, congressman, was born in 1799, in Virginia. He was a representative in congress from Georgia, from 1837 to 1839. He subsequently edited the Athens Banner, and filled a large space in the politics of Georgia. He died March 31, 1859, in Columbus, Ga.
HOLST, HERMANN EDUARD VON, educator, lecturer, author, was born in 1841. He is an historian who first came to America in 1866 and engaged in lecturing and writing, but returned to Europe in 1872 and was successively professor of history in the university of Strassburg, in 1872-74, and at Freiburg, in 1874-92. In 1892 he became professor of history at the university of Chicago. He is the author of The Constitutional and Political History of the United States; Life of Calhoun; Life of John Brown; and Constitutional Law of the United States.
