Hawkins, Isaac R
soldier, congressman, was born May 16, 1818, in Maury county, Tenn. He served as a lieutenant in the war with Mexico, and was present at the capture of Vera Cruz.
From 1862 to 1865 he served as an officer in the union army. In 1865 he was commissioned chancellor for the sixth division of Tennessee, and in that year was elected a representative from Tennessee to the thirty-ninth congress. He was reelected to the fortieth and forty-first congresses as a republican. HAWKINS, JOHN HENRY WILLIS, reformer, was born Oct. 23, 1799, in Baltimore, Md. He lectured with success in the temperance cause in every state in the Union except California, also contributing constantly to the temperance press. He died Aug. 26, 1858, in Parkersburg, Pa.
