governor, was born in Delaware. He was governor of Delaware from 1811 to 1814, and again in 1823 and 1824. He died in July, 1824.

HASSARD, JOHN ROSE GREENE, journalist, author, was born Sept. 4, 1836, in New York city. He was a New York journalist, who was a literary critic on the staff of the Tribune, and was the author of The King of the Nibelung; School History of the United States; Life of Archbishop Hughes; The Life of Pope Pius Ninth; and A Pickwickian Pilgrimage. He died April 18, 1888, in New York city.
