Hoffman, Ogden
lawyer, congressman, was born May 3, 1793, in New York city. He entered the navy as a midshipman, but in three years resigned. He was appointed district attorney of Orange county; and removed to New York city in 1826. In 1828 he was a representative in the legislature; from 1829 to 1835 was district attorney; and was appointed United States district attorney by President Harrison. From 1837 to 1841 he was a representative in congress; and was again elected to congress in 1848. In 1854 he was appointed attorney-general of the state. He died May 1, 1856, in New York city.
