Harris, George E
soldier, lawyer, congressman, was born in January, 1827, in Orange county, N. C. He joined the confederate army, and remained until the close of the war; and was elected district attorney in 1865 and 1866. He was elected from Mississippi to the forty-first and forty -second congresses. He was subsequently chosen attorney-general for the state of Mississippi.
HARRIS, GEORGE WASHINGTON, mariner, author, was born March 20, 1814, in Allegheny City, Pa. He was a Tennessee river steamboat captain who contributed humorous and political articles to newspapers. Sut Lovengood's Yarns were published in 1867. He died Dec. 11, 1869, in Knoxville, Tenn.
