Gunn, James
soldier, state senator, congressman, was born March 6, 1843, in New York. He volunteered as a private in company G, twenty-seventh Wisconsin infantry, with which regiment he served until the close of the war, being mustered out with the rank of captain. In 1880 he joined the rush of prospectors to Idaho, making the town of Hailey, in Wood River Valley, his home. He was elected to the senate of the first state legislature in 1890; and was elected to the fiftyfifth congress as a populist.
