Greiner, John
journalist, governor, was born Sept. 14, 1810, in Philadelphia, Pa. He was for eight years librarian of the state library, and was a writer of popular political songs, among the most noted of which were those entitled Old Zip Coon; Tippecanoe and Tyler Too; and The Wagoner Boy. In 1849 he was appointed an Indian agent in New Mexico; and afterward became governor of the territory. In 1865 he settled in Zanesville, Ohio, and edited the Times of that city.
He died May 13, 1871, in Toledo, Ohio.
