Goff, Nathan
soldier, lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born Feb. 9, 1842, in Clarksburg, W. Va. He entered the union army, and served throughout the war, rising to the rank of brevet brigadier-general. He was elected a representative in the state legislature in 1867; reelected in 1868; and was appointed United States district attorney and served in that capacity until January, 1881. In 1881 he became secretary of the navy. He was elected a representative from West Virginia to the forty-eighth, forty-ninth, and fiftieth congresses.
