Eustis, James Biddle

soldier, lawyer, United States senator, was born Aug. 27, 1834, in New Orleans, La. He served in the confederate army throughout the war of the rebellion. He was elected a representative in the legislature prior to the passage of the reconstruction acts; and was a representative in the state legislature in 1872. He was elected to the state senate for four years in 1874. He was elected to the United States senate to fill a vacancy, and served from 1877 to 1879; and in 1885 was elected United States senator from Louisiana for the full term of six years.
