Epes, James Fletcher

soldier, lawyer, congressman, was born May 23, 1842, in Nottoway county, Va. He received a thorough education and graduated from the university of Virginia. During the civil war he served in the cavalry branch of the confederate service; had three horses shot from under him and received two bullet wounds. After the war he became a prominent member of the bar; and served with distinction in the fifty-second and fifty-third congresses as a democrat. He has now retired from active life and lives on a farm owned in former years by his father, in Nottoway county, Va.
