Ellicott, Joseph
civil engineer, was born in Bucks county, Pa. In 1797 he was employed by the Holland Land company and three years later was appointed its general agent, with a grant of six thousand acres of land, and five per cent. commissions on the sale of land. In 1803 he located the land office in Batavia, N.
Y.; and the surveys of the Holland Land company were all made in his name. He died Aug. 19, 1826, in Batavia, N. Y.
