Donnelly, Ignatius
lawyer, state legislator, congressman, lieutenant-governor, author, was born Nov. 3, 1831, in Philadelphia, Pa. In 1857 he moved to Minnesota; was elected lieutenantgovernor of that state in 1859; and re-elected in 1861.
He was elected to thirty-eighth thirty-ninth the and conand fortieth gresses as a republican; was state senator during 1874-78; member of the national executive committee and an eloquent speaker. He is the author of An Essay on the Sonnets of Shakespeare; Atlantis: the Antediluvian World; Cæsar's Column; Ragnarok: the Age of Fire and Gravel; and The Great Cryptogram. In this work he claims to have discovered a cipher in the plays of Shakespeare which sufficiently establishes the fact that they were written by Lord Bacon.
