Davis, Robert W
lawyer, legislator, congressman, was born March 15, 1849, in Lee county, Ga. His father was an extensive planter and an eminent baptist divine. In 1863 he entered the confederate service, and surrendered with the army of General Johnston. In 1868 he was admitted to the bar, and soon took rank among the most eminent members of the bar in his native state. In 1879 he moved to Florida, where he now also stands at the head of his profession. In 1884 he was elected a member of the Florida state legislature, of which body he was made speaker. In 1888 he received a very flattering vote as a candidate for governor. He is now serving with distinction as a member of the fifty-fifth congress from the second congressional district of Florida.
